Marvel at the lush forests of Mount Kenya, the panoramic semi–desert frontier of Samburu, the serene beauty of the Rift valley and Lake Nakuru – home to more than a million flamingos, and the rolling plains and acacia woodlands of the Maasai Mara, one of the world’s greatest wildlife theatres. Along the way, visit a local Maasai junior school, photograph lion, rhino, elephant and leopard among others from the safety of your pop-up roof safari vehicle and, after the sunset, tune into a cacophony of sounds uniquely Africa.

This morning we drive to the north through lush tea and coffee estate to mountain lodge. Nestled in the foothills between Aberdare and Mount Kenya National Park, the lodge is famous for its high perches and balconies, overlooking a saltlick and waterhole. Here we will enjoy the finest in high – altitude game viewing. Today’s highlight is an afternoon nature walk in the Mount Kenya forest escorted by the lodge’s resident naturalist (Subject to weather condition).

Serena Mountain Lodge

Days 4 & 5: Samburu

Continue with your safari adventure as you drive through wonderful ever-changing landscape. Samburu is famous for the rare and unusual species such as reticulated giraffe, long–necked gerenuk, beisa Oryx, blue legged Somali ostrich and Grevy’s Zebra.

After lunch and a siesta you will enjoy an extended afternoon game drive.

The following day explore the beauty and ruggedness of this game park on your game viewing drive. The river here is the arterial lifeline for many endemic species.

Samburu Serena Lodge

Day 6:  Sweetwaters.

Today we travel to the highlands of Sweetwaters Private Ranch and Rhino Sanctuary, located between Mt Kenya and the Aberdares. Sweetwaters is the home to an abundance of plain game which can also be viewed on spectacular night game drives and also to a Chimpanzee sanctuary, where orphaned Chimps are hand–reared for rehab into the wild. This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendor. Our tents at Sweetwaters will remind us of this bygone era.

Sweetwaters Tented Camp

Day 7: Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, board your safari vehicle and drive through Aberdares mountain range and the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park one described by America Ornithologist  Roger Tory-Peterson  as “the most fabulous bird spectacle in the world.” The park and its lake play host to lesser and greater flamingos and species of animals, including lion, rhino, hyena and elusive leopard. Enjoy an afternoon game drive along the lakeshore.

Sarova Lion Hill Lodge

Day 8: Maasai Mara
This morning we overland to Maasai Mara and here we find the old Africa of the movies, with rolling grasslands dotted by acacia trees and sweeping plains teeming with wildlife. This northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem, one of the world’s most rewarding wildlife observation areas, virtually throbs with life.

During our time here we also visit a village of the Maasai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals, plus hear a talk by Maasai elder as he shares insights into the future of his people.  Many special events are planned here.

Keekorok Lodge

Days 9 & 10: Maasai Mara

Today we get a closer look at the Mara during two extension game runs.  Game viewing options abound at Maasai Mara. Choose to go on morning game drive or take an optional bush walk with an expert naturalist guide, or you may wish  to soar over the bush in an optional hot–air balloon, seeing the world of the Mara as enormous herds of grazing animals ------- predators hide among the acacia trees – black maned lion and cheetah.

And finally the pinnacle of our stay – an optional bush cocktail party deep in the heart of the Mara at sunset.
